The
time is upon us. The weather is starting to change and air is feeling a little
warmer. We have spend more time indoors
this year than almost any other due to local stay a home regulations. Yes it is the time of the COVID-19 and summer
is upon us. Many are feeling the need to
drop a few pounds from the winter. This
year we have spent an extra month by law inside and not getting out to exercise
for our own health. So many people will
turn to diets for the summer and will be changing their eating routines
drastically. This can have many effects
on your dental hygiene. Many of them are
positive, but some can be negative
As you are choosing a healthy diet that fits
your lifestyle don’t neglect other aspects of health. Many people go overboard and forget to eat
essential foods that provide minerals and vitamins. So start taking some supplements. Take extra supplements if you are already
using them. It is better to be safe, then find your teeth are hurting do to
lack of nutrition or worse that your tooth decay really accelerates and you
find you need more calcium magnesium. It is always better safe than sorry, so
keep that in mind when choosing your
perfect summer diet.
I would suggest find a diet that has the
potential to eat less sugar. It may seem
like a simple idea, but watch out for those diets that have lots of
fruits. They are loaded with sugars and
carbohydrates. It is important to
control the amount of sugar you eat because cavities can sneak up on you fast
and are rather expensive and painful. It
is also important now because many dentists are not essential which means they
are unable to work in durning the state wide lockdowns of the pandemic. So as a
general rule attempt to find a diet that allows you to eat less sugar.
Always remember to put a few extra teeth
brushings on the list. Many diets will
have an abnormal amount of acids in them which can cause teeth to decay
faster. A good way to counteract this is
to protect your teeth by simply brushing them more. Also remember to use a high quality
toothpaste with lots of fluoride. So when choosing a diet add some extra time
for a few extra bushes and remember to enjoy your new summer look. Have fun and stay safe.
